Seven members (Emily, Hector, Angel, Kuan, Kishi, Pamela, and Dr. Park) took to the water at Piermont Pier, and we had a blast! Coincidentally, we even got to see the sailboat "The Clearwater," which just so happened to be docked along the end of the pier that day!
The fish were biting, and "high hook" (this term is used by anglers to refer to the fisherman/fisherwoman with the most catches) was Emily with a total of seven fish! She also caught the biggest fish of the day - a 5lb American Eel!
Our goal for the afternoon was to (re-)learn how to cast, rig, bait, set the hook, fight fish, photograph fish, and release fish. When all was said and done, we tallied a total of five different species! Each species had its unique story to tell - some are gearing up for a big migration (American Eel, Striped Bass), one is likely a year-long resident (White Perch), and others (Oyster Toadfish, Weakfish) were unexpected surprises in estuarine waters this far north from the ocean!

Best fishing story of the day: Kuan and Kishi were fishing and then they both screamed out "I got one!" Well, it turned out that they actually caught the same fish - no, not just the same species but the same individual fish! Their tag-team catch of this Striped Bass gave us all a good chuckle and a great story to tell! One fish with two hooks- what are the chances!
